Simple Present tense Definition
Simple Present tense is used to talk about the action in present. Simple Present tense is also called present indefinite tense. It is not sure that whether the task is completed or not in this tense. It is used to describe those actions which are factual and habitual things.
Examples of Simple present tense
He walks daily.
Water boils at 100 degree Celsius.
Steve always finishes his work accurately.
Sometimes Mark fights with his sister.
Simple present tense rule
Simple Present tense = Subject+1st Verb +Object
1st Verb+ s/es–> (He, She, It, any Name, Singular noun)
1st Verb –> (I, We, They, You, Plural Noun)
Negative Sentences in the Simple present tense
When we make negative sentences, we normally use auxiliary verbs don’t and doesn’t
Negative Simple Present tense = Subject+ Do/Does not + 1st Verb +Object
For Plural nouns or (I, We, They, You) we use do not and for singular nouns or (He, She, It, any Name) we use does not.
For example
I don’t like cheese burger because it is not good for health.
Most of the employees do not work on Sunday.
He doesn’t come so late usually.
Mark does not surf internet every day.
Yes/No Questions in the Simple present tense
When you make any question that can be answered as yes or no, then you should start it from Do or Does after that Subject followed by base form.
Yes/No Sentences = Do/Does not + Subject + 1st Verb +Object ?
For Plural nouns or (I, We, They, You) we use do not and for singular nouns or (He, She, It, any Name) we use does not.
For example
Do you want to know the truth?
Does it make any sense?
Do you take breakfast daily?
Does he play with you every day?
Wh- Questions in the Simple present tense
When you make any question that starts with wh word, then you should start it from wh word and then add Do or Does after that Subject followed by base form.
Wh words are when, why, who, where, whom, how, what, how much, how many.
WH Sentences = Wh word + Do/Does not + Subject + 1st Verb +Object ?
For Plural nouns or (I, We, They, You) we use do not and for singular nouns or (He, She, It, any Name) we use does not.
For example
Who do you think win this match today?
How much does the shirt cost?
Why don’t you understand my problem?
Where do you live in the city?
Tag Questions in the Simple present tense
Tag questions are those questions which are answered at the end of the sentence. They can be simply made by adding don’t or doesn’t.
For Plural nouns or (I, We, They, You) we use do not and for singular nouns or (He, She, It, any Name) we use does not.
For examples
Mark is cute, isn’t he?
All those boys are mad, aren’t they?
You can also use tag questions in positive sentences
She doesn’t read news paper, does she?
Those girls don’t play cricket, Do they?
