    Rules of Present Continuous Tense

    • Now
    • Long term actions
    • Near Coming Future
    • Repeated action with the use of always

Lets us discuss them all with the help of examples.

    Now (at that time)

When you have to express that something is happening now then present continuous tense is used.

    For example

    • Jully is coming here now.
    • Are you bathing Max?
    • Where are you going now?
    • Is she coming with you?

    Long term actions

Any long term actions which are being proceed now. In English grammar, we can use the word “NOW” for this second, today, this month, and this year. So we can use present continuous tense for linger term actions too.

    For example

    • I am studying to become an Engineer.
    • Is she working on any new project?
    • Are you teaching in UK now?
    • Shelly is studying the book Clinton.

    Near Coming Future

Sometimes, we use present continuous tense when any thing is going to happen in the near future.

    For example

    • I am going to blast the dance floor tonight.
    • We are visiting Nigeria next month.
    • Are you going to the college tomorrow?
    • I am catching you after work.

Repeated action with the use of always

There are few situations when you get irritated with someone’s repeated action.

In these kinds of sentences we use simple present tense and we use always and constantly words usually.

    For example

    • Steve is always coming late to the school.
    • You are constantly cheating her.
    • She is always complaining about others.

Few More rules about using ING at the end of verb

If the verb ends with e, remove it by adding ing at the end of verb

    Come +ing=Coming

    Make +ing =Making

    Change +ing =changing

    Advise +ing =Advising

    Have +ing =Having

If the verb ends with ie, then ie becomes y by adding ing at the end of verb

    Die +ing=Dying

    Lie +ing=lying

    Tie +ing=tying

If the verb ends with any word (Excepting w, r, y) and there is a vowel before it then we write the last word two time by adding ing

    Run +ing=Running

    Put +ing=Putting

    Beg +ing=Begging

    Bid +ing=Bidding

    Set +ing=Setting
