    Different Types of sentences by structure with example: Those writers who write only simple sentences seems little immature and who write long sentences seem that they are not able to make their sentences understandable. We can categorize types of sentences according to their structure.

    Sometime, you make simple statement which is not dependent on other statements and at the same time you make another statement which is dependent on that statement. Just like this, you make different types of sentences according to their structures. So based on the structure of the sentences, we have four types of sentences. Here Different Types of sentences by structure with example are explained.

    There are basically four types of Sentences based on structures.

    Simple Sentences

    Compound Sentences

    Complex Sentences

    Complex-Compound Sentences

    Here we are explaining each type with examples so that you can understand the basic concept behind this.

    Simple Sentence

    Simple sentences are also called independent clauses. They contain a subject, verb and a complete thought. This is the simplest form of sentences which is used in formal letters and essays. Let us see few of its examples. The Green color part is subject and Sky blue color part is verb.

    I love my country.

    Steve goes to school and studies every day.

    John and Mark play cricket.

    These all are simple sentences. Note that sentence 2 contains compound verbs and sentence 3 contains compound subjects. So simple sentences may contain compound verbs and subjects.

    Compound Sentences

    Compound Sentences contain two independent clauses which are joined by a coordinator. It is made up of two simple sentences which are not dependent on each other. Coordinators are for, and, but, or, so, yet. Let us see few of its examples. The green color part is subject, sky blue color part is verb and yellow color part is coordinator.

    I tried to play football, and my friend tried to play cricket.

    I was playing game, so Leena went to the market.

    Jasmine was reading but her mind was not there.

    These all are compound sentences. Each sentence contains two independent clauses. 

    Complex sentences

    Complex sentences one independent clause and other dependent clauses.  A complex sentence always have a subordinate such as although, after, when, since, because, who, whom and that.

    Let us see few of its examples  

    I returned my courier after I noticed the fault.

    John is studying hard because he has exam tomorrow.

    He is the owner of the mall who wants that shop.

    These all are the examples of Compound Sentences. Each sentence contains one independent clause and other dependent clauses.

    Complex / Compound Sentences

    As it name shows Complex / Compound Sentences are the combination of both complex and compound sentences.

    The place where I was born is still good place to visit.

    The city where I studied is in England.

    These all are the examples of Complex/ Compound Sentences. Each sentence contains the combination of Complex and Compound Sentences.
